Ideas for your orangery

The idea of an orangery may seem strange to some people, with the immediate images of tropical rooms full of fruit growing in hot countries springing to mind. But in reality, orangeries are just conservatories that have been designed to fit in with the rest of the house.

This is usually done by being built with stone or brick to seamlessly blend with the existing features of the house, and a lantern style roof with floor to ceiling windows. There are lots of ways you can decorate and use your orangery to make it a valuable part of your home, and make it a space you just cannot live without.

Light will be a key feature in any orangery, with large windows letting streams of light in. Why not take advantage of this and place plants in your orangery? This is – of course – the intention of original orangeries in country houses.

By introducing nature into the space, it will help to make you feel connected with outdoors, as well as creating a calming environment for you and your family to relax in. Light will also need to be considered for night time, and for different uses. Soft lighting would be something to consider should you use the space for wining and dining guests, whereas candles will create a soothing and romantic atmosphere.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

Furniture is a great way of adding character and colour to a room. As your orangery will bring so much light into the space, you may wish to introduce a bold colour scheme. In this case, less is definitely more, try having a feature wall, or bold coloured wishbone chairs. Link it into the rest of the room with a few key accessories, such as soft furnishings. Cushions and rugs are a great way to do this, as they are easy to get and fairly affordable, so you can change your colour scheme whenever the mood strikes you.

Remember, your orangery will be a large open space, but you will still want the room to feel cosy and homely. Have a clear idea at the design stage as to what you want to use the space for, to avoid it becoming a useless room full of clutter. Make the most of the space available, and keep a clear theme within the space and into connecting rooms to make it feel warm and a part of your house.
